and Other Special Occasions

Monarch Trio
2 Flutes and Cello

Monarch Trio

The Monarch Trio consists of Polly Meyerding, flutist, Russell Dedrick, flutist, and Laura Handler on cello.

We play music ranging from beautiful Baroque favorites, such as Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, to popular Irish tunes and Beatles standards.  The two flutes have a sweet sound that need to be heard to be appreciated. The deep resonant cello sound is the perfect accompaniment to the lyrical flutes.

We have all the standard wedding music at our fingertips, plus many unique and unusual pieces, and will work with you to find the perfect selections for your wedding or party.

"The Monarch Trio sounded great and fit in well with the beautiful surroundings.
You were all a pleasure to work with and have our highest recommendation!"

Tessa & Brad King

Russell and Polly met in New York City where they studied with the same flute teacher.  They have been married over 20 years, and feel that they bring good luck to weddings!

Russell Dedrick was Solo Piccolo and Assistant Principal Flute in the Orquesta del Estado de Mexico, in Toluca, Mexico, for two seasons. Locally, he has performed with the Minnesota Orchestra, VocalEssence (Plymouth Festival Orchestra), Symphony of the Lakes, Dale Warland Singers, Minneapolis Chamber Symphony, Bach Society, Schubert Club, Thursday Musical, and many other orchestras and chamber music groups.  He is also president and owner of The Amazing Husband Handyman Service.

Polly's biography is below.

Arabesque Trio

The Arabesque Trio brings together three very different but wonderfully complementary instruments and tone colors.  From the silvery flute to the sonorous cello and the unique beauty of the harp played by Andrea Stern, the Arabesque Trio is sure to please you and your guests.

The trio plays a variety of styles of music -- from Baroque and Classical favorites such as Bach and Mozart to the French moods of Debussy, from traditional Celtic airs to modern favorites from Broadway and Hollywood -- we have something for everyone!

Laura and Andrea have played with chamber groups and orchestras all over the world and are busy freelance musicians here in the Twin Cities area.

You can hear the Arabesque Trio on our sample CD. Please contact Polly and she will be happy to send one to you.

Polly's Flute Education Programs:

Teaching:  Individual Lessons

Polly teaches flute lessons to students of all ages in her home in Maplewood, Minnesota. Her students have won auditions to play in the Minnesota Youth Symphonies and Greater Twin Cities Youth Orchestras, and also have won prizes in numerous regional competitions.  Her high school students have gone on to study flute at the college level at music schools around the nation.  Polly's adult students enjoy playing in community bands and orchestras, as well as local theater productions.  The students participate in solo and ensemble recitals twice a year.  Links are provided below for some of the support services that may be handy for students and other flutists.

Summer Programs

Polly conducts two one-week summer programs, the Flute Intensive (for advanced flutists of all ages) and the Flute Fling (for advanced beginner to intermediate players). Each is designed for twelve participants.  Guest artists include members of the Minnesota Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and university faculty from the region. Auditors are welcome at the daily guest master classes.  Each program ends with a concert of music prepared during the week, open to the public. This year's Flute Intensive takes place June 20-24, 2016. More information is available at FluteIntensive.com.  The Flute Fling is from June 14-17, 2016. Visit FluteFling.com to learn more.
